Donna Gosling is a former Canadian secretary and also the mother of Hollywood superstar Ryan Gosling. Both of Ryan Gosling’s parents are of part French Canadian descent, along with some German, English, Scottish, and Irish. His father Thomas Ray Gosling was a traveling salesman for a paper mill. Donna and her husband had two children- Ryan and his older sister Mandi Gosling. Because of her husband work, Donna and the family “moved around a lot”, the family lived in both Cornwall, Ontario and Burlington, Ontario.

Donna Gosling and her husband divorced when their son was 13
Ryan Gosling’s parents called their marriage a quit when he was just 13 years. After the divorce, the actor and his elder sister lived with their mother. Ryan described this experience as programming him “to think like a girl”. “I think like a girl, I think,” he says, in answer to a question about growing up with his mother and sister (his parents had divorced)- “I was literally raised by my mother and my sister. And I just feel like I wouldn’t know how to think any other way. My sister was my best friend and my hero growing up.“
Donna Gosling’s famous son admitted he “hated” being a child and was also billed in school. In grade one, having been heavily influenced by action film such as Sylvester Stallone’s First Blood, the young Ryan took steak knives to school and threw them at other children during recess. This incident led to his suspension from school.
The actor was unable to read, and was evaluated for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). But according to reports he was not diagnosed with the ADHD. Donna Gosling left her secretary job to home school her son for year, which meant an ever greater female presence in his life. Discribing the experience, the actor recalled-“Because I was home-schooled I didn’t have a lot of friends and I did ballet, which was always just girls. All of that had an effect on my brain.”

Donna Gosling’s son also revealed the homeschooling his mother help him to develop “a sense of autonomy that I’ve never really lost“. the Hollywood actor dropped out of high school at age seventeen to focus on his acting career. While her son left school to focus on his career, in June 2012, Donna Gosling graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Brock University, St. Catharines, Canada.

In 2017 interview on The Graham Norton Show The Notebook actor recalled that her mother Donna Gosling had a beehive hairdo at the 2007 Academy Awards. According to the actor, one of her friend convinced her to do the beehive hairdo. “My mom was convinced by her friend that beehives were gonna be all the rage,” he recalled. “And if you didn’t have a beehive, you’d feel embarrassed. And it turned out to be the opposite. It was a natural hair vibe that year.”
Donna Gosling was sitting in front of Rachel Weisz and because of her hairs Rachel had to keep leaning to see in front of her beehive. To make her feel comfortable about her beehive hairstyle Ryan Gosling found a perfect person for the Job- He asked Meryl Streep to compliment Donna’s hairs. Ryan said,
“I didn’t know what to do cause I was – I wanted to have a nice night, so I didn’t knew Meryl Streep but she was sitting next to me and I said in a commercial break, ‘Would you mind just telling my mom you like her hair?’ and she was like, ‘I got this,'”
“And then the commercial went and she goes, ‘Do you know, I was gonna do a beehive and I wish I had.’ And my mom was like, raise the roof all night.”
