What Happened To Richard Branson’s Daughter?

Clare Sarah Branson is the firstborn of Richard Charles Nicholas Branson and his wife Joan Templeman. Richard and Joan who have been married since 1989, gave birth to Clare in 1979. Clare came into the world three months premature. Sadly, she died in a hospital incubator when she was just four days old.

Clare Sarah’s parents, Richard Branson and Joan Templeman were reportedly on a holiday in Inverness when Joan complained of stomach pains. She suspected that she was having an appendicitis attack. She was taken to the hospital but the doctors found out that it was just a ‘false alarm’ per Daily Mail.

However, this led to early labor, and Clare Sarah Branson was born prematurely. Richard disclosed that: ‘We were hoping and praying that the hospital would keep her alive, but it wasn’t to be.’ However, after Clare Sarah died, her parents went on to give birth to two more children, Sam Branson, and Holly Branson.

According to Richard Branson, his wife Joan has never got over Clare’s death. Richard admitted that: ‘The mending process takes time and it didn’t really start until Holly was born 18 months later … but I suspect for the mother it’s never completely completed.’ Clare didn’t get to grow up as her life was very short. She died of respiratory failure at Raigmore Hospital.

Richard Branson recalled: “Joan thought she had an attack of appendicitis and they operated on her and found it was a false alarm. But it brought on early labor. In those days, the incubator system wasn’t as good as now and we were told that because the baby was 25 weeks, it constituted a miscarriage, therefore we couldn’t have a proper burial. So we had our own little service and the Catholic church allowed us to put a plaque in her name.”
