The American actor gained international recognition for portraying Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown in the Back to the Future trilogy and Jim Ignatowski in the comedy series Taxi, for which he won two Emmy Awards.

Christopher Llyod and Catherine Boyd’s marriage

The 21-year-old Lloyd married Catharine Dallas Dixon Boyd, on June 6, 1959, in Greenwich, Conn., in a beautiful wedding ceremony in the presence of their friends, families, and loved ones. At that time, both were taking their first steps in their acting careers. Though they promised each other forever, things didn’t go as planned.

Christopher Llyod and Catherine Boyd were married for 12 years before filing for a divorce and going their separate ways in 1971. Boyd has sued Lloyd for failure to uphold their divorce settlement which obliged him to pay her alimony until she either remarried or died.

Unfortunately for the Back to the Future actor, his ex-wife never remarried and is very much alive. In the early 2000s, Catherine Boyd took Lloyd to court for not paying her 31 years of alimony — which added up to the princely sum of $1.2 million.

In her claim filed with the Manhattan Supreme Court, Boyd accused the actor of harassing and defaming her with claims that she was a fraud and a thief. Boyd included Lloyd’s fourth wife, Jane Walker Wood, in the suit. In papers filed Catherine Boyd Lloyd claims the star that played loopy cabby Jim Ignatowski has been dodging paying her full alimony for the past 31 years – and now he’s trying to cut her off completely.

The suit also seeks higher alimony payments from the “Back to the Future” star, because his “income has increased significantly since Oct. 20, 1971.” The couple’s divorce agreement said that Christopher Llyod would pay his ex-wife $ 1,500 a month in alimony and support for Catherine “until she either remarried or died,” the suit says.

According to the filing, Lloyd, however, soon started dodging the payments, even though Catherine “never remarried and is still very much alive.” In 2016, Llyod married his fifth wife Lisa Loiacono who was his real estate agent when he sold his house in Montecito, California, in 2012. Before that, he was married to actress Kay Tornborg, Carol Ann Vanek and screenwriter Jane Walker Wood.
