Anthony is not the only child of her parents, he has two other siblings. They are  Deidre Angela Shaw and stepbrother David Shaw. Anthony Pullen Shaw’s father Peter Shaw was also an English actor and producer.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, his mother, Lansbury discusses how the life she shared with his father, Peter Shaw was nearly upended when the two discovered that both of their young teenage children were experimenting with heavy drugs.

Anthony and his sister Deidre grew up in Malibu and got heavily involved with drugs in their early teens. The English actor’s son and daughter were hanging out with the crowd led by Charles Manson. Angela Lansbury revealed to the Daily Mail:

“It started with cannabis but moved on to heroin. There were factions up in the hills above Malibu that were dedicated to deadly pursuits. It pains me to say it, but, at one stage, Deidre was in with a crowd led by Charles Manson.”

Their mother relocated to County Cork, Ireland, in order to aid her children, and she didn’t work while Anthony and Deidre recovered. That was back in the 1960s, and the star of “Murder, She Wrote” said there weren’t many choices for helping addicted teenagers at the time.

The family’s wisest decision was to relocate to her mother’s homeland. Lansbury claimed that she and her husband had no understanding of what was going on, much less how to deal with it:

“Certainly, I have no doubt we would have lost one or both of our two if they hadn’t been removed to a completely different milieu, the simplicity of life in Ireland.”

Anthony Pullen Shaw’s parents found a doctor who prescribed methadone to her children — a heroin substitute to help with the withdrawal symptoms.

While Anthony Pullen’s mother, Lansbury repeatedly stated that she wanted to put her children before her career, she admitted that she often had to leave them in California for long periods when she was working elsewhere.

Angela Lansbury brought up her children to be Episcopalian, although they were not members of a congregation. She has stated that “I believe that God is within all of us, that we are perfect, precious beings, and that we have to put our faith and trust in that.”
