Vernita Lee (1935–2018), a housemaid, and Willie Wright are her parents. She is the half-sister of Patricia Lee Lloyd (3 Jun 1959 – 19 Feb 2003), Jeffrey Lee (14 Dec 1960 – 22 Dec 1989), and Orpah Gail Winfrey aka Oprah Winfrey (January 29, 1954).

Patricia Lofton Was Put Up For Adoption

Patricia Lofton was not raised by her parents Vernita Lee and Willie Wright. Her mother put her up for adoption after she was born. Patricia’s father has claimed that he wasn’t aware he had a daughter, adding that he would have been happy to raise her if he had known. Patricia lived in different foster homes.

Patricia was 7 years old before a family adopted her, per People. Her mother put her up for adoption because she did not think she could get off welfare if she kept the child. She said: “I made the decision to give her up because I wasn’t able to take care of her. So when I left the hospital, I told the nurse I wasn’t going to keep the baby.”

At the time Patricia was born, her half-sister Oprah Winfrey was living with her father and didn’t know her mother was even pregnant. Patricia decided to find her biological mother when she turned 20 but gave up the search. Years later, she resumed the search, getting her adoption records. Through the adoption agency, she tried reaching out to her mother, whose name she didn’t even know.

Patricia received a call from the state adoption agency, which reported that her birth mother had been contacted but did not wish to meet her. The very day, Patricia came across a story on the news about her biological mother Vernita Lee (also Oprah Winfrey’s mother), who she didn’t know was her mother at the time.

Vernita Lee was talking about how she lost two of her children. Patricia realized that the details matched the information Patricia had seen in the adoption papers. The adoption papers indicated that she had two sisters and a brother, and only the older sister was alive. Vernita also revealed that one of the deceased children was named Patricia.

“The hairs on the back of my neck stood up,” Patricia said. “Because I knew one of my siblings and I shared the same name.” Patricia eventually discovered more details that matched, including the fact that Oprah Winfrey was born in the year 1954, the same year as the woman Patricia knew was her surviving sibling.

Patricia decided to visit a Wisconsin restaurant owned by Oprah Winfrey’s niece. She showed her the adoption documents and revealed she suspected they were related. Patricia and the niece did a DNA test which proved a positive match. It was in 2010 that Oprah Winfrey got to know she had a half-sister, Patricia.

“It was one of the greatest surprises of my life,” Oprah Winfrey said. “It left me speechless.” The sisters reunited on Oprah’s talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. Patricia also met her biological mother Vernita Lee for the first time since her birth.

Vernita revealed that she didn’t reveal anything about Patricia because she was ashamed that she had given up a child for adoption. “I thought it was a terrible thing that I had done,” Vernita said. Vernita claimed she “did think about the baby. I went back looking for her and they told me she had left.”

Patricia Lofton’s Personal Life

Patricia Lofton is the mother of two children, Aquarius Lofton and Andre Lofton. She was 17 years old when she had her daughter, Aquarius. Her son, Andre followed six years later. She was unwed, a single mom, and worked two jobs to provide for her children. She used to be a maid per sources. She is now in a relationship with David Lofton.

Patricia Lofton’s half-sister Oprah Winfrey is said to have bought her a $500,000 home in Wisconsin. Oprah also gave Patricia a monthly allowance so she could quit her job and go back to school, per Daily Mail. Patricia graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2017.
