Although these characters were almost exclusively used as villains in the early days of Disney, the depiction of witches has evolved to include good, evil, and neutral magic users.

1. Hocus Pocus:

After moving to Salem, teenager Max Dennison (Omri Katz) explores an abandoned house with his sister Dani (Thora Birch) and their new friend, Allison (Vinessa Shaw). After dismissing a story Allison tells as superstitious, Max accidentally frees a coven of evil witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy) who used to live in the house.

The three Disney Witches are back ready for a night of fun, magic, and horror in the modern Salem on Halloween. Now, with the help of a magical cat, the kids must steal the witches book of spells to stop them from becoming immortal.

2. The Little Mermaid:

They weren’t joking when they referred to her as a witch! Ursula waits for the right moment to exact her revenge after being exiled from Atlantica by King Triton. It occurs when Ariel strikes a deal to exchange her voice for human legs. If Ariel does not win Prince Eric’s love within three days, she will be permanently bound to Ursula, giving Ursula the upper hand over King Triton. The lesson here is to always read the fine print!

3. The Chronicles of Narnia:

4. Halloweentown:

Halloweentown is a 1998 Disney Channel Original Movie directed by Duwayne Dunham. Marnie and her two siblings get a big shock when they follow grandma Aggie Cromwell home to Halloweentown – and find out they come from a family of witches. The town is the only place where supernatural beings can lead a `normal’ life, but the trouble is looming, and on her 13th birthday Marnie not only finds she is she’s half-human, half-witch, but that she and her family are involved in a fight against the evil that is threatening to take over the world.

5. The Sword in the Stone:

The story of King Arthur’s humble beginnings is told in this Disney adaptation of the classic fable. As an orphaned child, Arthur, then known as Wart, wishes to assist his foster brother, Kay, in becoming a knight. While assisting Kay with her training, Wart comes across Merlin’s cabin, which belongs to the bumbling but talented wizard Merlin. Merlin tries everything he can to persuade the boy that he is destined for greatness, and when Wart and Kay travel to London to compete in a jousting tournament, they discover that Merlin was correct.

Weel, this is one of the greatest Disney movies with witches and Wizards. The Disney wizard, Merlin, despite being a little forgetful, is an excellent mentor to Arthur (aka Wart). And, while his tutoring methods are unusual, such as transforming himself and Arthur into fish during a physics lesson, they somehow prepare Arthur for his future as king.

Appearing in the same movie,  The Sword in the Stone is also, the witch, Madam Mim. The Disney witches, Madam Mim is a wicked and villainous witch who uses her magical abilities to make others’ lives miserable. She demonstrates considerable power by being able to transform herself into a variety of forms, including a dragon.

She is a cruel and depraved woman who despises anything wholesome, such as sunlight. As a foil for Merlin, she demonstrates that she is a worthy opponent who is simply outwitted by the famous wizard.

6. Onward:

The Wizards movie takes place in a universe where humans don’t exist; therefore, the world is instead populated by mythical creatures. Ian and Barley, two elven brothers, set out on an epic adventure to resurrect their late father for a day in a magical realm where technological advances have taken over. Their journey, like any good adventure, is filled with cryptic maps, impossible obstacles, and unimaginable discoveries. When their dear Mom discovers that her sons have gone missing, she joins forces with the legendary manticore to bring her beloved boys home.

Ian has only ever wanted to know more about his late father for as long as he can remember. And on his 16th birthday, the awkward and shy blue elf receives a life-changing gift, which sends him and his big brother, Barley, on an epic quest.

7. Aladdin:

The list of list of Disney movies with Witches and Wizards will not be complete without Aladdin. This movie has one of the most popular Wizards in the Disney universe, Jaffar.

Aladdin is a lovable street boy who meets Princess Jasmine, the lovely daughter of Agrabah’s sultan. Aladdin discovers a magical oil lamp while visiting her exotic palace, which unleashes a powerful, wisecracking, larger-than-life genie. As Aladdin and the genie become friends, they are soon forced to embark on a perilous mission to prevent the evil sorcerer Jafar from overthrowing young Jasmine’s kingdom. As royal vizier, the Wizard Jafar desires more and wants to be the Sultan of Agrabah.

8. Wizards of Waverly Place:

In this Disney Wizards movie, Alex, Justin, and Max Russo are three teenage wizards-in-training who live in a Waverly Place apartment in Greenwich Village, Manhattan. Jerry Russo, their father, and a former wizard teaches his children how to use magic responsibly on a daily basis in their secret lair. The knowledge that when their training is complete, they will have to compete to determine who will become the Family Wizard—the one who gets to keep their magical powers forever—while the other two will lose their powers and become mortals—looms in the background.

9. The Princess and the Frog:

Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), a hardworking and ambitious young woman, aspires to one day open the best restaurant in New Orleans. When she meets Prince Naveen (Bruno Campos), who has been turned into an amphibian by the evil Wizard, Dr. Facilier, her dream takes a slight detour.

Naveen plants a kiss on poor Tiana, mistaking her for a princess and hoping to break the spell, turning her into a frog as well. The two embark on a journey through the bayous in search of the assistance of a powerful voodoo priestess. Dr. Facilier an evil witch doctor/bokor who plans to rule New Orleans with help from his “friends on the other side”.

10. Once Upon a Time:

A troubled young woman is drawn to a small town in Maine where fairy tales are believed. Emma Swan’s life has been anything but a happy one. But everything changes when she is reunited with Henry, the son she gave up for adoption ten years ago, on the night of her 28th birthday.

11. Sleeping Beauty:

After being snubbed by the royal family, a malevolent fairy places a curse on a princess that only a prince can break, along with the help of three good fairies. After the beautiful Princess Aurora is born into royalty, everyone gathers to celebrate. The Disney Witch Maleficent always lives up to her title as Mistress of All Evil, whether she’s hypnotizing Princess Aurora or transforming into a dragon.

12. MCU:

While the majority of Disney witches are either completely good or completely evil, the Scarlet Witch is the most nuanced and complex witch in the Disney pantheon. Scarlet Witch has done some terrible things, such as holding the people of Westview hostage, but she is never shown to be a villain.

She is one of the most powerful beings in the MCU, nearly defeating Thanos by herself, she has a good heart and wants to do the right thing but is deeply affected by her grief. Scarlet Witch is an incredibly compelling character and the best witch in any Disney film or television show because of her immense power and nuanced morality.

12. Into the Woods:

This is a Disney musical movie. As the result of the curse of a once-beautiful witch, a baker and his wife are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch’s beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill a wish.

13. Oz The Great And Powerful:

Another great movie in the list of Disney movies with Witches and Wizards that you need to check out. When shady circus magician Oscar Diggs is flung from Kansas into the fantastic land of Oz, he believes fame and fortune are his for the taking. Three witches, however, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora, and Glinda remain unconvinced that Oscar is the great wizard that the people of Oz require and expect. Oscar, unwillingly drawn into Oz’s epic problems, must discover who is good and who is evil before it’s too late.
