How did Mike Tyson’s Daughter Exodus Die?

In 2009, Mike Tyson and his fiancée, Sol Xochitl, suffered a devastating loss when their 4-year-old daughter, Exodus Tyson, died. In her Phoenix home, the small child became entangled in a treadmill cord and died at a local hospital. According to her obituary, Exodus died on May 26, 2009.

Miguel Leon, Mike’s first kid, was just 7 years old when he discovered his sister tangled in a treadmill cord, according to ABC News. Exodus was playing when she became entangled in the cord, which “acted as a noose,” according to authorities. According to the news site, Tyson was in Las Vegas at the time and flew down to Phoenix as soon as he was told, arriving at the hospital where his daughter, Exodus Tyson was on life support before she died.

Miguel found his sister and informed his mother, who was in another room. According to ABC News, she disconnected the young girl’s chord, dialed 911, and attempted CPR on her.

Exodus Tyson was in the playroom as his mother was cleaning the home. Police stated in a statement reported by ABC that she sent her son in to check on his sister and discovered her “in distress.” The mother originally believed Exodus had been electrocuted, according to the statement. When first responders came, Exodus Tyson remained unresponsive, so they began life-saving attempts.

Exodus Tyson was sent to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Police classified Exodus Tyson’s Death As ‘a Tragic Accident’ & 911 Tapes Captured the Chilling Call

Exodus Tyson’s death was ruled to be an accident by Phoenix Police after an investigation. According to ABC News, police called it a “tragic accident.”

“She [Exodus Tyson] was playing on this treadmill in some way, and there’s a cord that hangs under the console; it’s kind of a loop,” police Sgt. Andy Hill explained. “Either she slid or her head got caught in the loop, but it functioned like a noose around her neck, and she was clearly unable to free herself.”

According to the New York Daily News, the mother dialed 911 and told the operator, “My kid!” “She’s choked!” exclaims the narrator.

According to ABC News, Tyson made a statement at the time of Exodus’s death.

It said:

The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time. There are no words to describe the tragic loss of our beloved Exodus.

Consumer Reports described the death as “preventable” and issued a reminder about treadmill safety.

“Tyson’s daughter, Exodus Tyson’s injuries serve as a sad and serious reminder of the dangers that home exercise equipment can pose to children. If you have any in your home, make sure the equipment is unplugged and out of a child’s reach, and keep young children away from equipment without safety locks. Children should especially be kept away from exercise equipment when it is in use,” Consumer Reports wrote.

How Mike Tyson Feels about his daughter’s Death

Tyson called Exodus his “Angel” and told Oprah Winfrey he did not want to know how she died. After learning she had died, he told the news outlet “my first instinct was a lot of rage.”

“If I know, then there might be a blame for it,” he said on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“If somebody’s to blame for it, there will be a problem,” he continued.

He said his family is his “biggest asset” and said he is grateful to have the coping mechanisms to not react violently.

“I was so happy that I had the tools in life, you know, to not go in that direction,” he told Oprah. “Because I’ve been [in] that direction. I know where that’s gonna lead me. I know I’m not gonna win.”

The death of a child is obviously a very traumatic moment, and Tyson didn’t handle it well. In another interview with HBO’s Real Sports, the former champion let all of his emotions out and told the brutally honest truth.

He recalled that, when he first heard the news, his first instinct was to grab his gun and “go crazy.” He didn’t know who he’d hurt, but that was, as he said, “his best thinking at the time.”

Then, when he got to the hospital and saw his daughter, those thoughts went away. Instead, he was filled with the pain and agony that any parent who had just lost their child would feel. He turned to cocaine, saying that he needed to feel high to get through the experience.

The former heavyweight champion of the world became so caught up and emotional that he abruptly terminated the conversation. “You have to go now, you understand, right?” he informed the interviewer. After that, he requested that the camera team remove the equipment from him.

As Tyson exited the interview area, the cameras were still filming, and he was weeping and apologizing for crying.

How Mike Tyson coped with the loss of her daughter Exodus Tyson

Tyson sought a more lasting remedy to his misery after bingeing on cocaine and found it in his future wife, Lakiha Spicer. Following this sad occurrence, their relationship became stronger, and they married a little more than a week after his daughter’s death Exodus Tyson.

Since then, Spicer has aided the former champion in reclaiming his life. He transitioned from having wild drug-fueled parties to a relatively sober lifestyle. Tyson now just smokes cannabis and runs his own weed company. Aside from that, the two had two children together: Milan, a daughter, and Morocco, a son.

Milan and Morocco joined Tyson’s large family, which includes his other kids from his past marriages and relationships. His other kids are named, according to FanBuzz, Mikey Lorna, Miguel, Rayna, and Amir. That said, according to The New York Times, he also considers himself as the father to Gena, who’s the biological daughter of his ex-wife, Monica Turner.
